Welcome
My Politician enables you to search the profiles of all the federal Australian politicians, (candidates for election too, when the elections are on) and in the future State politicians.
You can quickly locate statistical and contextual information about politicians in your electorate and compare them with other politicians across the country.
More about My Politician
This site is designed to provide alternate methods to rate politicians than more traditional methods.
Day to day, politicians have a choice to utilise technology to communicate with the members of their constituencies. Whether they do that or not is something we try to monitor and promote.Ultimately the long term view is to change the way voters in Australia view their role in local politics. Should it be about the party view or how well your sitting Member or Senate representative stands up for your electorate? Most likely it is a balance between both, however not enough is being shown over the length of their tenure to rate and provide feedback on how people feel they are doing.
What is the MyP Rating?
Our MyP Rating is a view into how well each politician and candidate uses digital tools to communicate. Note the term communicate (not broadcast). We want to rate how each of your representatives scores in an Information Age for utilising what most of us have to use to do our jobs.
Using 7 common digital and social communication tools, we have rated each politician, firstly on what tools they have and then secondarily on how well they use them to communicate.
Importantly the review of how they use the tools, is weighted more heavily than just having an account.
What factors indicate effective use?
Examples of poor use include locking your Facebook profile, or only broadcasting messages over Twitter. Active use includes real communication, currency in how frequently updates are conducted and an obvious understanding of normal usage. A good blog would include personal opinions as well as party messages.
These determinations are made based on over a decade of experience in utilising digital tools, and while minor variations could be determined over the detail to date, the findings on who is more successfully using the tools is highly reflected in how well these politicians are able to get their message out without other media assistance.
Our upcoming user rating system will provide a different snapshot on how well the electorate views the individual performance. We haven't found this done to date elsewhere and look forward to it's release
