Senator George Brandis is Shadow Attorney-General, Shadow Minister for the Arts and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate.
Senator for Queensland, George Brandis lives in Brisbane. He was born in 1957 in Sydney and was raised in Brisbane. George Brandis received a Bachelor of Arts and Law degree before serving as an Associate to Justice Sheahan. He went on to obtain a Bachelor in Civil Law from the University of Oxford. From 1985 he was a Barrister and appointed Senior Counsel of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2006. He also served on the board of UNICEF Australia for ten years.
In 2000 George Brandis entered Federal politics after being chosen by the Parliament of Queensland to represent the State in the Senate. In 2007 he was appointed Minister for the Arts and Sport. From December 2007 George Brandis was appointed Shadow Attorney-General and in 2010 was also appointed Shadow Minister for the Arts. He is also Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Senate, a position he has held since May 2010.
