Robert Oakeshott is an Independent Member of Parliament
Member for Lyne, NSW, Robert Oakeshott is married to Sara-Jane and they have four children, Sophie, Olivia, Angus and Benjamin. Born in 1969 in Lismore, New South Wales, Robert Oakeshott has a Bachelor of Arts and Laws degree. Upon leaving university he worked as an assistant to lobbying firm Resolutions from 1992-1993. He was Media Officer to the Hon. MAJ Vaile from 1993-1996. In 1996 he was elected to the New South Wales State Legislative Assembly for Port Macquarie for the National Party. He held many Shadow Ministry positions. He resigned from the National Party in 2002 and won the seat again as an Independent in 2003, retaining it until his resignation in 2008.
In 2008 Robert Oakeshott entered Federal Politics winning the seat of Lyne at a by-election as an Independent. He was re-elected in 2010 and gave his backing to the formation of a Labor minority government.
